The Ikebana competition is spectacular. The arrangements are elegant, each more sophisticated than the other. I don’t envy the judge for having to make such a tough decision. As I wait for the results to be announced, I notice a confident lady walking slowly past the exhibits, a notepad in hand.
While she moves across the room, I admire her lovely cream kanchivaram silk. I’m fascinated by the lightness with which it falls. Even more interesting is the unusual floral hand block print all over the body. The pink pallu and matching blouse provide a soothing contrast, all coming together to create a gorgeous flower bouquet.
When she reaches in front of me, she catches my eye, smiles and says, “It’s beautiful isn’t it. I can’t decide!” She smiles graciously, an amused twinkle in her eye, when I blurt out, “Your saree is the winner.”
